Android will be much closer to us

本文

Do you have a smartphone which loads Android? How do you think the future of it? Now, I'm going to explain why I think Android will be much closer to us.

First, I'd like to introduce that the price of smartphones will be much lower. "By 2015, 67 percent of all open OS devices will have an average selling price of $300 or below, proving that smartphones have been finally truly democratized," said Roberta Cozza (2011), principal analyst at Gartner. So, the price of Android, which is one of the open OS, also will be much lower.

Next, I'd like to mention that there are many applications in the Android Market. How many applications are available? Have you thought about it? In fact, you can download about 400,000 applications and games in the Android Market. Visit www.androlib.com/appstats.aspx and check the concrete values. You can also check the newest value which means the estimated number of applications downloaded in the Android Market. Moreover, you can develop your original application and upload it to the Android Market.

In conclusion, Android will be much closer to us step by step. There are two reasons. One is the price of smartphones will be much lower, and the other is there are many applications in the Android Market. After this speech, why don't you visit www.androlib.com/appstats.aspx and check the newest values?

和み亭の紹介文(プレゼンテーション用原稿)

本文

There are a lot of izakayas in Japan and many of them are noisy. When you drink with your girlfriend or boyfriend, do you really want to go to a restaurant like that? Though I don't have a girlfriend, I'd like to drink in quite restaurant because I'm a very shy person. Hello, my name is "Octos" and I'm going to tell you about a quite and clean izakaya named "Nagomi-tei". This speech will help you when you want to relax and drink. First, I'll talk about the atmosphere of "Nagomi-tei" so that you will be able to understand why you can relax at this restaurant. Then, I will explain the menu, foods and drinks. They will give you satisfaction. Lastly, I'll briefly mention some of the benefits that the restaurant offers. The more you go to the restaurant, the more you earn benefits.

I'd like to begin with the atmosphere of "Nagomi-tei". Generally, many izakayas are noisy. When young people or university students hold their party, they chat with their friends very loudly and they sometimes do "Ikki-nomi". Someone rush into a toilet because they drink too much, too fast and feel sick. On the other hand, elderly office workers smoke. Can you relax at a noisy, annoying and smoky restaurant?

"Nagomi-tei" says "Large and small parties catered for." You can hold a party in this restaurant but the rooms are separated. Some people go there with their children but they are kept away from the noisy and smoky atmosphere. Of course, they are also hospitable to adults. In this restaurant, there are suitable lighting, cool jazz music and clean bathrooms so you can drink calmly.

Next, I'd like to talk about the menu. "Nagomi-tei" presents not only drinks but also plentiful food; salad, sashimi, sushi, pizza, small meat dishes and desserts! It is good for ladies and children. Moreover, they serve special menu. For example, you can order sukiyaki and "Chanko pot" in the winter. You can taste "Sanma" in the autumn and even "shaved ice" in the summer! Of course, there are many drinks. Beer, wine, sake, "shochu", cocktail and non-alcohol beverages. You may keep your own alcohol bottle at the restaurant so you can enjoy various drinks. It is also good for people who can't drink too much. In general, you can't decline "Otoshi" which is not cheap. But there is no "Otoshi" system at "Nagomi-tei". It is reasonable for customers.

I have talked about the atmosphere and menu and now, I will explain some of the benefits that the restaurant offers. If you use a credit card, it is recommended to use the "Watami" card. "Watami" is the name of company and "Nagomi-tei" is one of the chain restaurants. By using "Watami" card, you can reduce the price by 5 percent. During your birth month, the company sends you a complimentary food ticket whose value is thousand-yen. Even if you don't have a credit card, you can still enjoy some of the benefits. Go to the restaurant again and again in order to become a frequent visitor, and you will receive a leaflet which has a voucher in your mail box. One day, I happened to see the customer list at the casher desk. The headline said "VIP Customers". I usually go there once a week for about 3 years, so the owner may upgrade me to the list. Thanks to it, I often get a voucher.

I'd like to wrap up this presentation. I talked about three topics: atmosphere, menu and benefits. First, I talked about the calm atmosphere of "Nagomi-tei". Then, I explained the menu, various foods and drinks. Lastly, I discussed some of the benefits that the restaurant offers. You can find further information about the restaurant and their menu by visiting www.watamifoodservice.jp/watami/about/#about03. Thank you. Are there any questions?

Asian people should sleep more in order to keep their health good

本文

When do you bed in and get up usually? How long do you sleep? If we look at Figure 6-2 in the textbook Thinking about Japan, Now and Future (p.24), which is the result of A.C.Nielsen investigation, we can understand that many Asian countries people bed in lately. This data is the part of article "Sleepless in Asia: 40% of Asia Pacific Consumers Aren't in Bed Until After Midnight" on acnielsen.co.jp, and it also shows that many Asian countries people get up early. Why Asian people bed in lately and get up early? In my opinion, nowadays, most Japanese use Internet at home and many students study hard because they want to enter a school as they wish. If do so, you sleep in the middle of the night.

As for the Internet, firstly, let's look at "OECD Factbook 2009" (p.179). We see from of Japanese and Korean use Internet. Then, how about an academic ability? "PISA" is "The Programme for International Student Assessment", which is a survey of knowledge and skills of 15-year-old students. The PDF file refers to result of PISA 2006, and if we look at p.23, p.48 and p.54 of it, we can understand that some Asian countries take their position higher level, especially score of Korea is high. In Korea, many high school students grapple with fiercely competitive entrance examinations, so they must study very hard.

If we have such a busy lifestyle, we should be stressful. The article "Work And Sleep", which is written by The HRM Guide Network on hrmguide.com, says that "The study found that there was a moderate relationship between short sleep and time spent on socializing, relaxing and leisure." In short, a streesful lifestyle prevents us from sleeping enough time.

As stated above, Asian nowadays lifestyle has a problem so that we bed in late time and cannot sleep well. It is clear that a sleepless lifestyle is bad for our health. In order to sleep well, we should reconsider our lifestyle. If we sleep well in every night, we can have a lively daily life!

Influence of Japanese jury system

本文

The Japanese jury system was introduced on May 21, 2009. Citizens were chosen to handle one crimanl court with professional judges. Lay judge were supposed to examine a bill of indictment, and deliver judgement on defendant. By implemented this system, what effects and problems was happen? Two following outcomes be brought about.

First, the system brought citizens opportunities to know how to do trials. Generally, most of the trials were not open to us citizens. We were not offered deatils of prosecutors' and attorneys' circumstantial pleadings. We usually looked some trial at news, but they brought us little information other than court room sketches or brief reasons for judgements. Now, we can take part in trials, we get much information about them. As a result, an exclusive judicial system may be improved.

On the other hand, there are many legal terms which are difficult to understand. In addition, you have to look at evidence which may include frightful photographs. Moreover, you must be absent from work and keep secrets about the trials. Although it is considerably hard work, the government pays lay judges only 10,000 yen per day. So, it should become a problem how to back lay judges up so as to relieve their work load and strain.

In conclusion, we have to become more familiar with the judicial system. Meanwhile, we still have many problems to enforce the system. It can be said, if there are not enough persuasive arguments, some people may refuse to accept this system. So, the goverment should consider how to lighten the burden imposed on lay judges. An active discussion must improve the judicial system.

「子供の日」のエピソードを紹介する電子メール

本文

Dear Tom,

When you met me yesterday, you said, "Why May 5 isn't written as 'Boy's Festival' on Japanese calendar?" To answer your question, it is also called 'Children's Day' and this name is more formal in Japan.

By the way, I experienced a strange event when I was child. Our residents' association held the event of Hinamatsuri on March 3. Though it was the 'Girl's Festival', boys could take part in it together. There were no helmet replicas and many hina dolls in the room!

In Japan, May 5 is the last day of Golden Week, so almost all the people feel blue. I think it's why they did not hold 'Boy's Festival' on rightful day.

Your Friend,
Octos
